LinkedIn allows you to turn off read receipts and typing notifications. Here's how:
It's amazing how many people put little or no effort at all into their LinkedIn profile picture; yet it's critically important in getting attention and setting the scene before people start to read your beautifully crafted biography and career history. Not surprisingly, when people are looking for a photo for their LinkedIn profile they try to find something which makes them look confident and competent - yet that's not one of the first things we want to know about someone when seeing them for the first time. On many occasions at workshops, I've asked delegates to tell me what they want to see in a person purely from looking at their profile photo, and all too often they've talked about friendliness, trustworthiness, honesty and dependability before anything else. This Forbes article makes for interesting reading and really helps to highlight the importance of getting your photo right.
There are a couple of points I agree with in this, though the tone of the article is overcooking the downside. There are plenty of fantastic features on LinkedIn - you just have to USE them! Click here to read...
For the proper geeks among you, here's a piece of LinkedIn history. This is a video made by Yan Pujante who was one of the original software engineers who built the LinkedIn site. You see him coding (if that's your thing) on the original laptop, but also the very early version of the site. He says: "While looking through my closet I found the original laptop that Reid Hoffman bought for me in 2002 and which I used for several years to build LinkedIn. I was able to boot it up and run a local build of LinkedIn from mid April 2003 so about 3 weeks before the launch. I made a video of the build from April 2003 running in April 2018 on the original laptop! Pretty amazing it still runs!" https://youtu.be/BivjcNPt6Xs
